3C MaxxTerra
Maxxis’ 3C MaxxTerra is an intermediate triple compound configuration used across our mountain tire line. The 3C MaxxTerra compound offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip, which makes it ideal for trail riding in all conditions.
3C MaxxGrip
Maxxis’ 3C MaxxGrip compound uses the stickiest, slowest rebounding rubber we offer in a mountain bike tire. This high traction compound is the same one used by our top World Cup Downhill and Enduro World Series athletes and is now available in a variety of casing configurations to cover all riders.
- 3C MaxxGrip + EXO casing = Light duty trail riding in wet/slick conditions

EXO
EXO is a cut- and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of many Maxxis mountain bike and gravel tires. This densely woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for enhanced durability for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding.
EXO+
EXO+ is Maxxis’ medium-duty puncture protection option suitable for all-around trail riding and light weight e-bikes. We begin with a durable 60 TPI casing, add in our legendary EXO puncture protection layer in the sidewalls, and top it off with a small butyl insert around the bead. The tough casing and EXO material ward off damage from rocks and roots, while the butyl insert protects the tire from pinch flats and helps prevent rim damage.
Double Down (DD)
DoubleDown (DD) is our casing solution for enduro racing and e-bike use. Two layers of our lightweight 120 TPI casing material are combined with a butyl sidewall insert to create a highly durable tire with more trail feedback than a Downhill casing tire. DoubleDown tires are marginally lighter than their Downhill counterparts, but it’s really the difference in “trail feel” that sets the two apart. Some riders may prefer the highly damped ride provided by a Downhill casing tire.
Downhill (DH)
As the name implies, Maxxis’ Downhill casing tires are designed for extreme use in all gravity applications from downhill racing to bike park riding to free riding to long travel e-bikes. A Maxxis Downhill tire is made with two layers of our durable 60 TPI casing material along with a large butyl rubber insert that extends from each bead into the sidewall. The butyl insert helps prevent pinch flats, protects the rim from impacts, and provides additional sidewall stability.

Wide Trail
Wide Trail (WT) construction optimizes the tire’s tread layout and profile on today’s modern, wider rims. Historically, tires were designed around older, narrower rims which can create an overly square tire profile, leading to suboptimal performance. Our Wide Trail (2.40-2.50″ width) tires are optimized for a 35mm inner rim width but are proven to work over a range from 30-35mm inner rim widths, depending on the rider’s preference.

The DHR II brakes harder and tracks straighter under load than anything else I’ve tried — square knobs dig in and release cleanly without the vague, skiddy feeling you get from lesser tires. Cornering support is phenomenal for a rear-specific tread. Wears well even on abrasive hardpack, and the 60a casing option is tough enough for aggressive riding without killing your speed. Front and rear, this combo is just solved. "

- Would the, 27.5X2.50 | 60X2TPI | WIRE | BIKEPARK/DH/TR | Black | TB00537000 Work with my 27.5 X2.30 rim?
- If your current rims fall under the following criteria, and you have confirmed adequate frame/fork clearance, then you should be fine. See below: All Maxxis tires are designed to work with rims that are ETRTO compliant. Also, if your rims are hookless, please contact the manufacturer for wire bead compatibility. Lastly, the "ideal" rim width for a 2.50 tire would be 29-35mm internal width.
- Would a Maxxis Minion DHR II EXO/TR 60 TPI Tubeless 27.5´´ x 2.80 MTB be a good choice for a Yamaha ydx-moro emtb?
- Hi Tim - you would need to confirm tire clearance with Yamaha since the bike is originally spec'd with 2.60" tires. The 2.80" may be too wide.
- I have a 2017 trek X caliber 29” Will the minion dhr II 29x2.3 and did 29x2.4 fit
- Hi Ken - you would have to confirm clearance with Trek, but the 2.40" size would likely be too large considering the X Caliber is a cross country style bike.
- I have to replace the rear tire on my Trek Slash 7 29in. I really like the Minion DHR II but I'm not sure on how wide I want to go. The current tire is stock from Bontrager (Bontrager XR5 Team Issue, Tubeless Ready, Inner Strength sidewall, aramid bead, 120 tpi, 29x2.60) and the wheel is (Bontrager Line Comp 30, Tubeless Ready, Rapid Drive 54, 6-bolt, Boost148, 12mm thru axle, 29'') What are you thoughts and do you have any recommendations on tire width? Or just stick with the 29x2.60.
- We typically recommend a 2.40" wide tire for the type of bike you're riding. A 2.60" would allow you to run lower pressures, but it will roll slower and weigh more than a comparable 2.40.
- What width size will be ideal for 22.5mm inner width rim?
- A 2.30" width is best for your rim width.
