The Aspen ST is an ultra-low-profile race tire designed primarily for short track XC use. Sometimes referred to as the “Fastpen,” this tire is sure to give any racer an edge in dry conditions.

MaxxSpeed

The new MaxxSpeed (2023) is our top-shelf rubber compound for XC racing. It’s a high-silica content compound which reduces rolling resistance while also enhancing wet traction. Compared to the previous 3C MaxxSpeed, the new compound has approximately 25% less rolling resistance in a lab setting (using the same tread pattern, construction, and tire pressure). In a real world setting, our testing shows the new compound can save up to a minute over the course of a 90-minute race.

EXO

EXO is a cut- and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of many Maxxis mountain bike and gravel tires. This densely woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for enhanced durability for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding.

Tubeless Ready

Tubeless ready tires provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tire; and less chance of flatting because there is no tube. Tubeless ready tires are denoted by the letters “TR” on the sidewall.
Tubeless ready tires must be mounted to tubeless compatible rims and require the use of a liquid sealant to maintain pressure. Liquid sealants have the added benefit of sealing small punctures. Be sure to check your sealant regularly and refresh as needed as it will dry out over time.
Liquid sealants should only be used in the following types of tires: tubeless road, tubular, and tubeless ready. The use of liquid sealants in any other Maxxis tire will void the warranty.

Wide Trail XC (WT XC)

Maxxis recommends using 2.40″ Wide Trail XC tires on 30mm internal rims. The tires are compatible with rims as narrow as 25mm, but we do not recommend exceeding 30mm wide.

I bought two 29 x

"I bought two 29 x 2.5 Aspen ST tires for my Specialized Stumpjumper Expert carbon hardtail to replace rubber that was wearing out. The first ride was just last night and boy, did these make a huge difference. These may be the perfect tire for the type of trail that dominates Michigan. They offered tremendous grip on the hardpack and even in loose, small gravel. I regained my confidence in the corners and went deeper and faster into each and these Maxis's never lost grip. I love the weight too - very light."

The cost of being at the spears tip.

"Its hard to imagine I'm spending 90% of what my cbr600rr's tires cost for my bicycle. Unfortunately I know its worth it when you are trying to get every drop of performance available. These tires shaved almost a quarter pound per wheel from my normal Aspen Maxxspeeds, but they roll even faster, and I haven't found a legit scenario where I noticed less traction. I have a hard time judging value yet. If I can get a decent amount of races I may have to change the value."

can I use this Aspen St or the Ikon on a reynolds TR 329 trail (internal width of 32mm)? Thanks
Yes, assuming you're referring to the wider 2.35 or 2.40 sizes of those treads. Narrower sizes will technically work as well, but the profile will be overly square on a rim that wide.
Would you have a recommended tire pressure for MTN bike trails with a rider weight of 155 lbs.?
