3C MaxxSpeed
Used primarily in cross country (XC) tires, the two compounds in the outer layer are specially formulated to reduce rolling resistance and optimize treadwear and traction.

3C MaxxTerra
Maxxis’ 3C MaxxTerra is an intermediate triple compound configuration used across our mountain tire line. The 3C MaxxTerra compound offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip, which makes it ideal for trail riding in all conditions.
EXO
EXO is a cut- and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of many Maxxis mountain bike and gravel tires. This densely woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for enhanced durability for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding.
EXO+
EXO+ is Maxxis’ medium-duty puncture protection option suitable for all-around trail riding and light weight e-bikes. We begin with a durable 60 TPI casing, add in our legendary EXO puncture protection layer in the sidewalls, and top it off with a small butyl insert around the bead. The tough casing and EXO material ward off damage from rocks and roots, while the butyl insert protects the tire from pinch flats and helps prevent rim damage.

Wide Trail
Wide Trail (WT) construction optimizes the tire’s tread layout and profile on today’s modern, wider rims. Historically, tires were designed around older, narrower rims which can create an overly square tire profile, leading to suboptimal performance. Our Wide Trail (2.40-2.50″ width) tires are optimized for a 35mm inner rim width but are proven to work over a range from 30-35mm inner rim widths, depending on the rider’s preference.

Good grip on wet terrain
"I was using another tires brand and tried these as recommendation from a friend. First ride was on a dual susp on a semi flat trail with loose over hard but wet terrain and the traction and grip these tires provide is great. I am a heavy rider and feel these tires are great but on wet roots / roots you may feel some slips. Maybe a lower tore pressure on those conditions, but these are to stay on my bike."

"My first day on my new Rekon 29x2. 4 / 60TPI / EXO / TR Front was EXCELLENT! It spun up fast, rolled FAST, stopped fast, had plenty of GRIP on dirt and rocks, hooked up and tracked right thru hard turns, and felt really quick and flicky in a controllable and great way! Combined with my new Rekon Race 29x2. 25 / 120TPI / EXO / TR Rear, I had my fastest 4. 26mi. race lap at Folsom Lake in 4 years; FIRST DAY! "I like the website, it made it fairly easy to figure out what to buy once I found out what the WT designation was on your tires. My bike has 2. 8 Rekons on it now which are good tires but to wide for a single speed. I bought the 2. 4 WT Rekons to give less rolling resistance. Thanks for makeing the selection easy but it would be nice if there was someone to answer a question. I emailed but got no response."

- Hello! Looking at the picture of the EXO and EXO+ casing ... is there any difference in these aside from the extra protection around the bead? Thanks!
- The EXO+ construction adds a bead insert and more durable casing material over the EXO construction.
- My bike came stock (white "Maxxis" logo patch) with 29x2.6 EXO Rekon. There is no "TR" patch on the sidewall to indicate tubeless, but there does not appear to be any 29x2.6 variant of the Rekon that is not designated as tubeless according to the product table on your website. Is it safe to assume that these tires are still tubeless compatible, despite not having the "TR" patch?
- Hi Brian - we make some tires that are only available to bike brands and aren't sold in the after market. If there is no TR patch on the sidewall, then the tire should only be used with a tube.
- Hi, will the 27.5x2.4 WT tires work well with WTB i30 wheels with 30mm internal width? And would you recommend running these tires on front and rear in the same width(2.4)? TIA.
- Yes, 30mm rims will work great with all our 2.40 and 2.50 options. Many riders choose to run a 2.50 in the front and a 2.40 in the rear. It's a matter of personal preference.
- On a 27 mm rim, would a 2.6 or 2.4WT be the better option for fit and performance?
- The 2.40WT tire would be the better option on a 27mm rim. A 2.60 tire would be too wide and needs a 30-40mm rim.
- Will the 29x2.4WT work okay on a 30mm rim?
- Yes, a 30mm is the perfect match.
